Facebook Asks for Developer Input on How to Improve Platform

I’m going to be interviewed by the Facebook development team on Monday. I want to give them the best answers that reflect the Facebook developer community. I’ve heard plenty of input for my “FBML Essentials” book soon to be published by O’Reilly, but now is your time to speak and have your answers heard by Facebook.

If you have suggestions for things you would like to see improved on the Facebook development platform, or just plain things that are nagging you, leave them in the comments and I’ll ask all those I have time for in my chat with them on Monday. In addition, what would you like to see in FBML Essentials? If you were to read a book on FBML, what is it you think is missing on Facebook currently? I’ll also see these get reflected back to the Facebook Development team. Add your suggestions to the comments and maybe we can start a discussion…

Please feel free to forward this on so we can get some quality feedback!

  1. How did it go?

If I had seen this post earlier, I would have you ask about the “message to multiple ids” issues I discussed with you at the last UTSMDev meeting which is the same as the popular requested feature at http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Requested_Features

#5 Ability to specify multiple recipient IDs in Facebook's “compose message” URL. Basically an app can only pre-populate a single id in compose message URL even though the app may know exactly the list the user wants to message.

Or as an alternative I added this one to the requested feature list:
#57 Exclude IDs on group message – I can send a message to a whole group (if admin) but sometimes I want to send to just part of group, perhaps those who did not respond already or those who want to be notified more often, etc. Since you cannot specify multiple recipient IDs in Facebook's “compose message” URL, specifying a group and then excluding IDS would work and would result in fewer messages sent than if we must send to whole group.

I hope that with the trend towards “User Feedback-based Allocations” maybe they will open up messaging a bit more…

  3. Ben any update on the multiple ids issue. I'd love to be able to use that as well
