Email_Latest Pligg Module
Hi - you seem to be new here. If you like what you see, please give back by subscribing to my RSS feed!
You can check me out on Twitter, Facebook, or FriendFeed to see what I'm up to. Thanks for visiting!
As promised, I’ve created a Pligg module that will allow users to “sign up” for Pligg pages. Right now I’ve only finished the “sign up” part. You will need to create your own cron script that interfaces with the notifications table, and integrate it on your own into the user profile page if you want your users to be able to remove themselves from notifications. I wanted to get this out there anyways so others could help me out on it. “Release early, release often”. Expect the other features I mention above here shortly, and if you happen to beat me to them, please let me know with the code you’ve produced so I can integrate it into the next build! Here’s the download link:
http://forums.pligg.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=38&act=down
To install, copy to your modules directory, and untar and un-gzip it. Then, go to your admin and you’ll see the module under the Module Management section. Enable it, and you’re set! Read the readme.htm file (or click on the “Email Latest Stories” link) for more details on installation. You’ll also need to add the notifications table to your pligg database, included in the notifications.sql file.

This doesn't work with version 9.6
The Module Manager gets an error:
Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /home/newsdots/public_html/modules/email_latest/email_latest_settings.php on line 22

I'll take a look at it. I've got a half-baked cron script I've written too I need to get out there. Just trying to find time to test it and get it all together.

This mod is exactly what I need! The cron scripts etc are beyond me tho unfortunately so I'll have to wait until you are further along.
Rooting for u!

I have installed the module. I still have the text saying this is not currently enabled but when we do you will start receiving emails. I can change that text but what next?? What do I do to start sending e-mails? I have no idea how to set up cron jobs so if someone could tell me how to do that if nessesary. Do the e-mails get auto generated? Can I check the e-mails before they are sent. HELP!! Pleeease!

Is there anyway to get this mod to work with MySQL 4.1.22-standard, my host uses that version.

Blast, yes, you can subscribe to specific categories, not just the front page. One of my next tasks is to write the cron script to get the e-mails to actually go out. Right now your users can at least sign up to get what they want, and when I have the cron script written they'll be able get e-mails for those categories and pages they've subscribed to.
I'm looking at all the requests here - hang on guys. I'm going to get to this sooner than later - just a busy schedule is all.

Hi there. I've activated this module (a couple of times, just to check) and I get a warning: DATABASENAME.notifications doesn't exist in PLIGGROOT/libs/db.php on line 233.
sounds like I need to create a table in the db. any insight as to it contents would be appreciated. - brennan
PS thanks for all you do - its a lot!
